Teacher of the Year

Superintendent Bonner is proud to announce the Seminole County building and system teachers of the year.  The system teacher of the year and middle/high school teacher of the year is Mr. Keith Helms. Superintendent Bonner says "Mr. Helms has been a teacher for four years, and has quickly earned the respect and admiration of both his peers and students.  Mr. Helms is very deserving of this honor and I am very proud of his dedication to teaching and his students.  He will represent the Seminole County School System well when he attends the Teacher of the Year banquet in Atlanta next spring."  Principal Brinson Register echoes these sentiments, adding, "Mr. Helms goes above and beyond to help our students and our school system to achieve and be successful." Seminole County School System Makes AYP!!!

The state and federal DOE have certified school systems that have made AYP system-wide as of Novmeber 2nd, 2011.  It is with great pleasure that the Seminole County School System finds ourself in that group of systems!  Seminole County was in the top 27 school systems out of 181 systems state wide last year and are in the top 49 of 181 school systems this year, placing us in the top 27% of school systems with regard to making AYP system wide in the state of Georgia. This is an outstanding achievement and a great reflection on the accomplishments of our students, staff, administration and the community of Seminole County!

Congratulations to our elementary students and staff!  As you know, our elementary school designation last year from the DOE was “Distinguished” and has been for the past several years.  Further, we have made AYP for the past 10 years at the elementary school.  As superintendent, I am very proud of our elementary school students and teachers for this outstanding accomplishment!

Congratulations are also due to our middle/high students and their teachers on meeting and exceeding expectations at such a high rate!  As superintendent, I am extremely proud of our middle/high school students and staff, as they made AYP (Adequate Yearly Progress) for the second year in a row.    Our middle/high school is noted in an article in the July 21st edition of the Atlanta Journal Constitution as one of only 17 schools statewide to come out of the “needs improvement” category.  There are currently 379 schools in Georgia in that category.

While being noted as one of the most poverty stricken counties in the state (in the poorest 20% of the state), your school system is ranked in the top 27% of schools in the state.  Thank you for helping to make this possible by the overwhelming support of the parents, businesses, merchants, PTOs, Lions Clubs, churches and other groups who do so much to support our children.  This is obviously a school based community and a wonderful place to live and raise our children, where education is valued and appreciated!
